NHL insider Darren Dreger has revealed just how much money Brad Marchand is expecting on his next contract, and it's high, after his Stanley Cup win.
The Florida Panthers acquired the veteran right wing from the Boston Bruins in exchange for a future first-round draft choice, with Boston retaining half of his salary cap hit.
Marchand had 10 goals for the Panthers during their playoff run
Florida paid just $109,375 for Marchand's services, a bargain for a guy who would go on to net 10 goals, including two game-winners, in the team's second-straight Stanley Cup win.
Marchand, 37, added more than offense. His championship resume and high-energy presence added some sparkle to the Panthers' locker room, making Florida potentially the deepest team in the NHL.
His third-line efforts made the Panthers a defensive headache, especially in their six-game Final spanking of the Edmonton Oilers, a far cry from last season's back-and-forth seven-gamer.
Marchand is set to make over $8 to $8.5 million per year, NHL insider
Darren Dreger reports.
Darren Dreger: "Brad Marchand's camp could be looking for $8.5 per, or at least $8 plus."
His brief Florida sojourn will be recalled as one of the greatest trade deadline transactions in recent history.
