Matthew Tkachuk Plans Unforgettable Event to Honor Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau

Last off-season, the NHL was struck by tragedy when Johnny and Matthew Gaudreau tragically passed away, and since that point, there have been countless tributes from all over the sporting world for the beloved former Flames and Blue Jackets star.

Those continued this past week as many people from around North America took part in the Johnny Gaudreau 5k to honour the memory of the incredibly talented and very missed Gaudreau.

Former teammate Matthew Tkachuk wasn't going to miss the opportunity to honour his former Calgary Flames teammate, as the Panthers have revealed that Tkachuk was originally going to participate on his own, but instead, the entire playing group and coaching staff joined him in a fantastic tribute.

Johnny's passing no doubt hit those like Tkachuk and former best friend Sean Monahan the hardest, as they became close throughout years of playing alongside one another, and while they've already paid tribute to their late friend, this is another opportunity to honour him.

With just days until the Stanley Cup Finals, no one would have blamed Tkachuk if he didn't take part in the event, but knowing that this is bigger than hockey and it's a way to honour Gaudreau, he followed through with an amazing story.

Now, their attention will shift to Game 1 on Wednesday night in Edmonton, but this is a great way for Tkachuk and the team to get their mind off hockey for a little and take part in an amazing event over the weekend.
