Adrian Kempe is set to be an unrestricted free agent next season, but now, he's made a major statement on his future in LA after Rob Blake's firing.
The Los Angeles Kings have run into the Edmonton Oilers in four straight Stanley Cup Playoffs, and after blowing a 2-0 series lead as well as multiple third period leads, this is a team that fell for the fourth straight year to their Pacific Division rivals.
That resulted in action on Monday, when the team officially announced that they have parted ways with General Manager Rob Blake, who has overseen this disappointing rebuild thus far.
This has led to plenty of speculation around the future of Head Coach Jim Hiller, as well as several key players, including Adrian Kempe, who is eligible for an extension this off-season, and will hit unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2026.
When asked about his future on Monday after the Blake firing, Kempe opened up and revealed that he would like to remain in Los Angeles for 'as long as possible', as he has made a home there after being drafted 29th overall back in the 2014 NHL Draft.
At 28-years of age, Kempe has been a mainstay of this lineup for years, tallying 75 and 73 points over the last two seasons, and at this point, it appears as though the Kings would love to lock him in to a long-term deal as well.
For now though, it appears he'll play out the 2025/26 season, and beyond that he'll look to sign a new deal with the team, but if things go badly next season, there's always a chance that he could look to the free agency market to find a new home in the NHL.
