There was a feeling a week or so back that this game with the Wild might be big, maybe even playoff important. And it is, for the Wild.
Having only just endured
a 4-2 thrashing at the Calgary Flames' hands last evening, the Wild are clinging to hopes of the playoffs by their fingernails. If they had managed to snatch a point, they would be in a much better position.
Now, playoff seeding rests on Saturday night in Vancouver and some. The Wild must win and get some help, i.e., a regulation loss by
the St. Louis Blues to
the Kraken in Seattle, if they are to secure as early as tonight.
Coming into Saturday, the
Wild have 93 points on their resume, with two games left. Win both, they'll have 97. The Flames have 90 points, but they have three games remaining and can get up to 96.
Fleury will no longer be starting in Vancouver tonight
Minnesota had planned on starting veteran Marc-Andre Fleury Saturday, maybe his final NHL game, but those are on hold.
Due to recent turmoil and a tough outing by Filip Gustavsson on Friday (he was pulled in the third period), head coach John Hynes stated Gustavsson will receive another start against Vancouver.
There are signs Fleury will not play in Tuesday's season closer, which has everyone wondering if the fans have witnessed the last of the all-time great goalie. Sad times for sure.
