The NHL trade deadline has come and gone, but that hasn't stopped a few deals from going down as the Red Wings have moved Tory Dello to the Devils in a surprise deal that will have an effect at the AHL level.
The Detroit Red Wings have made some very interesting moves over the past few years, and after the NHL trade deadline is over, they've now made another deal with the New Jersey Devils.
According to a social media release, the team have sent defenseman Tory Dello to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for future considerations, making it a very small, low-risk trade for both parties.
The 28-year old was undrafted out of the USHL after playing four years for the Tri-City Storm, and after a solid career at the college level with Notre Dame, he's settled into a role in the AHL.
Unfortunately, he just hasn't been able to stick it out with any team, as he's played with Grand Rapids, Laval, Chicago and back to Grand Rapids, and now he'll head to the Utica Comets, the New Jersey Devils AHL affiliate.
This season with the Griffins, Dello has tallied 1 goal and 4 points in 28 games played alongside a -4 differential, and given that he's been traded for future considerations, he may never make it to the NHL level at this point.
Ultimately, this is a low-risk move for both teams, as Dello isn't likely to become a star at any level given his previous history, but for a Comets team in the AHL that's looking to improve, landing a 28-year old with over 200 games of experience in the AHL is a solid move as they look to continue building depth at that level.
