The NHL's trade deadline wrapped up last week, with many incredibly dramatic moments and shocking deals being made, but that doesn't mean trades in hockey have stopped completely.
Trades still roll on in the American Hockey League and all around minor league hockey, and on Thursday, one of the more shocking ones we've ever seen was confirmed, as the Utica Comets traded 24-year old defenseman Will MacKinnon.
On the surface, there's nothing too much to see there as he was dealt to the Cleveland Monsters for future considerations, but then, the comments went wild, as it turns out that MacKinnon's father is the General Manager of the team, ultimately dealing his son for future considerations.
The 24-year old struggled for much of the season however, tallying just four assists in 42 games played, but unsurprisingly, fans in the comment section on social media were enjoying the drama and making plenty of jokes.
While it may be fun for fans to joke about, this would have likely been one of the toughest calls to make for Dan MacKinnon to ever make, as it's clear that Will wasn't cutting it, but to actually deal your own son must have been a very tough decision.
Hopefully now though Will can thrive away from the Comets as he looks to build his career in the minor league ranks, but given that he was traded by his own father, it must come with plenty of difficult feelings.
