It has just been announced from the Department of Player Safety that Zary has been suspended for 2 games.
The fight was in the early part of the first period of Vancouver's 4-3 shootout victory when Zary was given a penalty for making what appeared to be a high cross-check to the head of Vancouver Canucks defenseman Elias Pettersson.
It came after Pettersson hit Calgary Flames center Nazem Kadri. Pettersson wasn't holding the puck when he made the hit, and therefore, Zary was assessed a two-minute minor penalty for interference.
Pettersson left the game early after that questionable play
Pettersson left the game after being hit and did not return to play for roughly six minutes before resurfacing onto the ice for a single shift in the first period. He did not come back to play the remainder of the game after that.
After the game, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet reported there was no update on Pettersson's condition. Zary, 23, has been the top Flames player this year, with 12 goals and 24 points in 49 games, with 14 penalty minutes.
The rookie forward was drafted 24th overall in 2020 and played his inaugural game last season, posting 14 goals and 34 points in 63 games.
Pettersson, meanwhile, in his first year in the NHL, has already appeared in 15 games for the Canucks this season with two assists.
