New York Rangers rumored no longer interested in hiring Peter Laviolette, instead want to hire General Manager's former College Teammate
Earlier this week rumors surfaced that the New York Rangers wanted to hire Peter Laviolette as their next Head Coach, however it now seems that ship has sailed. It now appears the Rangers are leaning to hiring General Manager, Chris Drury's former college teammate John Hynes.
It now appears Hynes won't be unemployed for long after being let go by the Nashville Predators on Tuesday, May 30th. On May 31st, after being granted permission to speak with Hynes, the New York Rangers and Hynes are making progress in their discussions for him to be the next head coach of the New York Rangers.
It's no longer a secret, but from what I've heard it sounds like things have moved in a very positive direction between #NYR and John Hynes.
Hynes and general manager Chris Drury have a long relationship. They were college teammates for three seasons together at Boston University and won the National Championship in 1995.
The 48-year-old Hynes hasn't had a ton of success in his nine seasons as a coach. He has failed to take a team past the first round. His coaching record is 284-254-63.
Hynes appears to be a well liked coach. He is known to be very detail-oriented, and communicates extremely well with his players.
With his established relationship with the general manager, it appears safe to assume that John Hynes is the front runner for the position.
