The New York Rangers need to stabilize the blueline. Without much room to add depth players, they have enough to sign someone to a professional tryout (PTO), and the answer to this question of "who could it be?" is former Philadelphia Flyers defenseman, Erik Johnson.

The New York Rangers could bolster their blueline through one more addition through a professional tryout. The defenseman who is an affordable addition is former Stanley Cup champion Erik Johnson.
Johnson was originally the first 1 overall pick in the 2006 NHL Draft. He originally began his career in the NHL with the St. Louis Blues before becoming the player he is with the Colorado Avalanche.
He was a key role player in the Avalanche's 2022 Stanley Cup run, as a gritty defenseman who suited up for the Philadelphia Flyers, Buffalo Sabres, and Colorado Avalanche the past two years.

1,023 Games of NHL experience Is What Erik Johnson Could Bring

1,023 NHL games and one Stanley Cup are what Erik Johnson could bring. He'd be a low-risk investment as a PT0: the Rangers could yield the rewards of a grizzled veteran blueliner.
While we shouldn't expect him to play a role in the Rangers' top-six, he could find himself as a reliable option in the bottom-pairs on the blueline.
Johnson is used to eating minutes on the ice, as he averages 20 minutes a night, and plays a physical game that could benefit the Blueshirts.
Should the Rangers convince him to sign in New York, they could carry him as a 7th defenseman on a league minimum deal.
His presence at training camp could also spark a competition for spots on the lineup.
However, it'd be a greater chance to risk it than letting the status quo of a leaky blue line continue without interruption.
