After 40 years with the New York Rangers, Sam Rosen is retiring after 2024/25, and he's set to be replaced by a very credible name in New York sports.
For the past four decades, New York Rangers fans have had the pleasure of listening in on Sam Rosen and his iconic voice calling games for them, but heading into this last season, he officially announced his retirement.
Now, with the 2024/25 campaign wrapping up, it appears that they've found their replacement, a person that will be very familiar to those fans in New York, especially fans of the New York Knicks and those who have enjoyed him already on occasion with the Rangers.
According to reports, Kenny Albert, long-time sportscaster will be taking over as the Rangers play-by-play announcer beginning in 2025/26, and for the most part, it appears fans on social media are very happy with the decision.
The 57-year old began his hockey broadcasting career as a radio announcer for the AHL's Baltimore Skipjacks way back in the early 1990's, as well as calling games for the Washington Capitals back in the 90's.
Since that point, Albert has deservedly risen through the ranks, covering all four major North American sports in some huge markets, and now, he gets the opportunity in the sports biggest market as the full time announcer for the Rangers.
While it's going to be a big change for Rangers fans that have enjoyed Rosen for the past 40 years, all good things must come to an end, and in Albert, they get one of the best announcers in all of sports with a wealth of experience and who is also familiar to the market, so this should certainly come as good news to those in New York.
