The New York Rangers have just added some size to their defensive crops ahead of training camp, as reports confirm the organization signed 6'7" veteran defenseman.

As the Rangers training camp begins next week, they have decided to add another veteran to the roster, a player who is hoping to make his return to the National Hockey League. That players being, 6'7" defenseman Andrej Sustr.
The 34-year old veteran, most recent time in the NHL was with the Anaheim Ducks during the 2021-22 season. Since then he has played in the AHL, the DEL in Germany, and last year he split time between HC Dynamo Pardubice in Czechia, and Tappara in the Finnish Liiga.
#NYR are adding defenseman Andrej Sustr to their training camp roster on a PTO.

Sustr, 34, spent the last three years playing in Europe.

There are now 19 players who have signed #NHL tryout agreements with camps opening next week.

Andrej Sustr To Provide The New York Rangers With Depth?

The former NHL defenseman will bring 361 NHL games of experience to the Rangers organization, along with some much need size on their defensive end as he stands at 6-foot-7 and weighs 216 pounds.
However, Sustr is also known for his offense as he had two outstanding seasons with the Tampa Bay Lightning during the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Sustr is a right handed defenseman, and has averaged 16:14 per game throughout his career, and in that span has 11 goals and 58 assists for 69 points.
I find it pretty interesting that after three seasons away from the NHL, the veteran was able to secure an invite to the New York Rangers training camp, clearly Chris Drury and the organization see something in him, whether thats for the Rangers or with the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League.
It's seems pretty clear that following a very disappointing 2024-25 season, the Rangers are looking to turn things around as they have made several changes to the organization from management, coaches and players. Hopefully this is the year the Rangers return to the Stanley Cup Finals.
