Longtime NHL goaltender Craig Anderson saw his playing career come to a close back in the spring while with the Buffalo Sabres and the following day, retired from professional hockey.

But many had wondered if the 42-year-old would return to the Ottawa Senators to retire as a member of their organization and it appears that will be the case.

According to TSN's Darren Dreger, Craig Anderson will sign a one-day contract with Ottawa to retire as a Senator. Dreger said it's still unclear when the process may happen, but it's likely it will come on Tuesday when the Senators host the Buffalo Sabres.

"The Ottawa Senators plan on signing Craig Anderson to a 1 day contract so he can retire a Sen. Tuesday vs Buffalo appears to be the target. Good man and great gesture by @Senators" Dreger said.

Dreger went on to say that Anderson's off-ice future is unclear at this time, but he will remain with the Buffalo Sabres on a part-time basis.

"Anderson's future remains unclear, but he will continue to do part-time work for the @BuffaloSabres for now."

Anderson, a native of Park Ridge, Illinois, spent parts of 20 seasons in the National Hockey League, ten of which were with the Ottawa Senators where he had a 202-168-46 record, along with a 2.84 goals against average, a .914 save percentage and 28 shutouts.

Congratulations to Craig Anderson on this well deserved honour!
