Ottawa Senators provide update on Erik Brannstrom
Ottawa Senators defenceman Erik Brannstrom was taken off the ice on a stretcher after taking a hit from New York Islanders forward Cal Clutterbuck.
The incident happened at 8:43 in the second period. Brannstrom landed headfirst on the ice. The Islanders had a 2-1 lead at the time of the injury, and won the game 3-2.
Ottawa revealed after the game that the 24 year old blue liner is awake and alert while having use of his extremities. He was transported to a local area hospital in the New York area.
Brannstrom has appeared in all seven games for Ottawa this season, going without a point while averaging 14:34 in ice time. Before the injury Brannstrom clocked 7:37 of ice time.
In 197 games Brannstrom has scored 4 goals and 49 points.
