The Ottawa Senators might be getting sold for a record-breaking amount in the coming months.

Sources have told Postmedia on Friday that a group involving Hollywood star Ryan Reynolds are preparing a bid to buy the Senators, as well as the Canadian Tire Centre, for over $1 billion USD. Also apart of the bid is the commitment to building a new arena close to downtown Ottawa.

Postmedia is also reporting that the group would like to get this deal done as soon as possible, with the current owners, the Melynk family, setting a May 15th deadline for final bids.

"The belief is Reynolds and Bratty would like to get this deal done as soon as possible and have been aggressive in their pursuit of the Senators.

As part of the proposal, we're led to believe Reynolds and Bratty are committed to building a new rink close to downtown Ottawa that will be surrounded by an entertainment district." Postmedia reports.

If the Remington Group's bid is successful in the coming months, it won't be the first team that Reynolds will be a part-owner of. In 2021, Reynolds, alongside actor Rob McElhenney purchased Welsh soccer club, Wrexham AFC, who just recently gained promotion back to the Football League for the first time in 15 years.

Having Ryan Reynolds as part of the ownership group will not only be great for the Senators organization, but also for the city of Ottawa and it's believed that the group wants to be very active within the community.
