It's likely been an nerve-racking time for members of the Pittsburgh Penguins front office staff ever since the team fired former President of Hockey Operations Brian Burke and GM Ron Hextall at the end of the regular season. Some key positions had their worries realized today when New President of Hockey Ops Kyle Dubas made his first move in his role.

Frank Seravalli reports Alec Shaw, Director of Hockey Strategy, Teena Murray, Senior Vice President of Sports Science/Performance, and Kerry Huffman, Director of Pro Scouting, were all handed their walking papers Friday. Seravalli says all three were hired by Hextall in his two years as GM of the Penguins.

Heavy Handed?

It's common for high level hockey executives to make changes when they first come in with a new team. As for the hires being made by a GM and fired by a President of Hockey OPs, Dubas told reporters he would be the acting GM until at least July, when he plans to start looking for the right candidates.

It has been noted a few times that Penguins coach Mike Sullivan is safe, and likely won't lose his job. However, that may be left up to the new GM once that person is found.
