Despite his name appearing in trade rumours this week, which were mentioned by Nick Kypreos of Sportsnet, it appears that the Penguins and captain Sidney Crosby are discussing a contract extension.
According to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, the Pittsburgh Penguins and captain Sidney Crosby have already been discussing a contract extension and it's possible that it will be made official as soon as he's eligible on July 1st.
The 36-year-old has spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Penguins after being selected first-overall in 2005. Following the 2023-24 campaign, Crosby will have one year remaining on a 12-year deal he signed back in 2012 and comes with an AAV of $8.7 million.
It's unclear what an extension for Sidney Crosby may look like. In the summer of 2025, he'll be turning 38, so it's likely that the term on that deal may be in the two or three year range. As for his average annual value, with the salary cap going up gradually over the coming years, there's no doubt that the organization will give him above $10 million.
Crosby, a native of Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia hasn't shown any signs of slowing down this season as he's currently above a point-per-game pace. In 60 games, he's recorded 63 points (32 goals, 31 assists), 28 penalty minutes and is a plus-12.
