National Hockey League fans have conditioned themselves to believe that superstars of their favourite teams will remain with the franchise they were drafted by or had a tremendous impact with for most of if not all their careers. unfortunately, that's not always the case.
Superstars such as Raymond Bourque were moved at the deadline so they could chase the ultimate dream of lifting a Stanley Cup, but could it happen to someone who has already won a cup or two? The idea isn't nearly as crazy as you think.
Take for example Sidney Crosby and the situation surrounding the thirty-seven-year-old old who is arguably one of the greatest five players to play the game. The Pittsburgh Penguins appear to be in the midst of a rebuild or retool, or whatever you want to call it and Crosby remains unsigned to this point. While it's likely he will put pen to paper shortly, imagine what a trade of the Pittsburgh Penguins franchise legend could do to help the Penguins, if he became available for a trade. Now consider who he could help and who would be interested in obtaining the first ballot Hall of Famer.
Who would benefit from his services? It's conceivable that the Vegas Golden Knights, Winnipeg Jets, Dallas Stars and Colorado Avalanche could all be potential suitors for Crosby and while it's hard to picture if a trade does occur at the 2024-2025 trade deadline it's likely that he would re-sign back with the Penguins after the season.
While these are all hypotheticals and as pointed out If Crosby was moved he would likely re-sign, it's more than likely he remains a Penguin for life. However, Penguins fans should prepare themselves. The idea of him skating for another team as outlandish as it is, is entirely possible.
