It was another disappointing loss for the Pittsburgh penguins last night when they made the trip to Edmonton to face off against the Oilers. While this loss doesn't end the Penguins playoffs, hopes it surely dashes them. The Penguins were in desperate need of a win, but instead they laid an egg.
The Oilers went onto win the game 6-1 and completely dominated play. The Penguins currently sit 10 points out of the final Wild Card spot, and would have to pass 4 teams to secure themselves a playoff spot. A difficult task for anyone.
After last night's game Penguins Captain Sidney Crosby was asked about the upcoming NHL trade deadline and the team efforts to make the playoffs. Unlike his usual self, you could see just how dejected and frustrated Crosby was. Crosby was asked by a reporter if the picture was emerging after three straight losses, that the Penguins should focus on the Trade Deadline.
Crosby has one year remaining on his current contract and rumors have already swirled that he is in agreement on a new deal with the club to be signed July 1st. However, you have to wonder if missing the playoffs for a second straight year could alter his decision. Especially if the team has towards a full rebuild.
