The Pittsburgh Penguins' season is over and for the second consecutive season, they failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which marks the first time that's happened in the Sidney Crosby era.
Crosby had a fantastic season and did all he could, putting the Penguins on his back until the final week of the season before they were eliminated from playoff contention thanks to the Washington Capitals defeating the Philadelphia Flyers.
During the Penguins' exit interviews on Thursday, Sidney Crosby told reporters that he intends on sitting down with General Manager Kyle Dubas to discuss a contract extension, which he'll be eligible to sign on July 1st.
Crosby, 36, had a strong 2023-24 campaign, surpassing the 40-goal mark for just the third time in his career. In 82 games, Crosby had 94 points (42 goals, 52 assists), 40 penalty minutes and was a plus-seven.
There's no doubt that Kyle Dubas is going to do whatever it takes no only to get Crosby under contract beyond the 2024-25 season, but also to ensure the Penguins remain competitive while their captain is with the organization. It's going to be interesting to see what moves Dubas makes this summer to help the Penguins return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs next year.
