Blues forward Zach Bolduc could soon be hearing from the NHL Department of Player Safety after he was thrown out of today's game against the Predators.
There have already been some
fireworks in Sunday's game between the divisional foe St. Louis Blues and Nashville Predators at Enterprise Center.
But the bad blood between the two clubs wasn't over just yet.
Predators defenseman attempted to check Blues forward
Robert Thomas in the neutral zone, but Thomas ducked out of the way at the last second while Blankenburg tumbled to the ice.
Knowing that Blankenburg intended to hit his teammate, Zach Bolduc immediately confronted him with a cross check to the midsection; he was assessed a 5 minute major penalty and a game misconduct.
Bolduc was taken by the Blues with the 17th overall pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, and would make his debut last year; he scored his 1st NHL goal on his birthday, a 6-1 loss to the Detroit Red Wings.
So far in his 1st full NHL year with the Blues, he has 28 points (14G, 14A) in 61 games played along with just 18 penalty minutes.
Considering that Thomas is one of the top forwards on the Blues, Bolduc must have felt it necessary to retaliate against Blankenburg for what could have been a devastating open-ice body check.
Whether or not the NHL Department of Player Safety decides that his actions were suspension worth remains to be seen.
