The San Jose Sharks are trying to find an identity once again after making some major changes. With that comes a commitment to only playing players that deserve it. As such, one big name will be sitting out tonight.
Vlasic has spent his entire career with the Sharks since being drafted by the team in 2005. However, the last couple of seasons his play has started to take a downturn. He's played four games this season, has no points, and is a minus-1.
The Sharks could buy out Vlasic, but it would cost the team $3.8 million next season, $4.8 million the next year, and $1.3 million for another two seasons after that. Long story short, the savings would be minimal. It's a tough spot for the team and the veteran of 1243 NHL regular season games.
