With the NHL's trade deadline set for Friday, March 8th, the San Jose Sharks could be one of the busier teams and according to Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff, one name that could be on the way out at some point this season is captain Logan Couture.
Couture, 34, has spent his entire 14-year career in the National Hockey League with the San Jose Sharks, who drafted him seventh overall back in 2007. In 927 career games with the Sharks, Couture has 700 points (323 goals, 377 assists).
The Guelph, Ontario native has four-years remaining on his contract with a whopping $8 million average annual value (AAV) and a modified no-trade clause that features a three-team list that he would accept a move to. His AAV and modified no-trade clause could make it very difficult for General Manager Mike Grier to find team willing to take him on.
Couture is currently sidelined with an injury, which caused him to miss all of training camp, but did get onto the ice in recent days. He's unlikely to suit up for San Jose's season opener on Thursday, October 12th against the Vegas Golden Knights.
