Prior to the United States' semi-final clash with Germany, the Sharks commented on the latter's Twitter post in German and when translated to English, it says:
The comment is pretty funny to say the least and some fans may be taking it a bit too seriously. A Sharks player and prospect were going head-to-head in the game as Henry Thrun suited up for the United States, while Nico Sturm was in the lineup for Germany.
Some fans weren't happy that the team was cheering against the country in which they are based in. But to be fair, they have the right to root for both players, even if the translation made it seem like they were cheering against the United States.
Germany would go on to shock the United States, defeating them in overtime and advancing to their first Gold Medal Game in their history and are now guaranteed to bring home a medal for the first time since the 1953 World Championship.
