After having a rough season two years ago due to injury, Sharks forward Kevin Labanc bounced back in 2022-23, putting up 33 points, while skating in 72 games. But this season, he's struggling and there's no doubt that he would benefit from a trade out of San Jose in the coming weeks.
Earlier this season, it was reported that the Sharks were going to place Kevin Labanc on waivers to send him to the American Hockey League, but instead, opted not to, with General Manager Mike Grier denying it was going to happen and had him in their lineup for his season debut later the next night against the Boston Bruins.
So far this season, Labanc only has seven points (two goals, five assists) in 32 games and according to Curtis Pashelka of The Mercury News, the Sharks and Labanc's agent are working on finding him a new home.
Labanc has currently been out of the lineup for seven games now and it's clear that he's frustrated with what's going on in San Jose and this isn't the first time this season he's been a healthy scratch for a lengthy period.
It'll be interesting to see if there will be any takers on Kevin Labanc before March 8th's deadline. His cap hit for the 2023-24 season is $4.725 million and he's in the final year of his contract, so if he's not moved before the deadline, he'll hit the open market on July 1st and will be able to find a new home then.
