With Jarmo Kekalainen officially out as General Manager of the Colubus Blue Jackets, the search is officially under way for a new one. John Davidson, who is the President of Hockey Operation in Columbus, has taken over Kekalainen's duties for now, but insisted the search for a new GM is underway, and will likely come from outside the organization. One insider has a suggestion.
Davidson and Gorton had a long working relationship with the New York Rangers, so it's not surprising someone would mention the possibility of a reunion. However, a GM position seems like a step down from Vice President of Hockey Operations, and Gorton appears to be very proud of the work he's done in Montreal since landing there in 2021. But Dreger is right, there is certainly no harm is asking if the Blue Jackets are interested. The worst that can happen is a no.
