Yamamoto, 24, has had quite the eventful week. His time with the Oilers was drawing to a close with either a trade or buyout looming due to Edmonton being tight to the cap.
He was ultimately dealt to the Detroit Red Wings on June 29th for future considerations and one day later, was placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout. On Saturday, he cleared unconditional waivers and became an unrestricted free agent.
In 58 games for Edmonton last season, the 2017 first-round pick put up 25 points (ten goals, 15 assists), 24 penalty minutes and was a plus-12. He added four points and 18 penalty minutes in 12 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
