The Toronto Maple Leafs are set to start their first round series against the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight in Toronto. This rematch of last year's series is highly anticipated and is expected to be a very competitive series. Ahead of tonight's game the Toronto Maple Leafs made a surprising recall for tonight's game.

Today the Maple Leafs made the surprising announcement that they have recalled Erik Kallgren from the American Hockey League.

The @MapleLeafs have recalled G Erik Källgren from the @TorontoMarlies to serve as the Club's playoff emergency backup goaltender (EBUG).

Last summer Kyle Dubas spent a lot of time trying to repair the Maple Leafs goaltending situation by acquiring both Ilya Samsonov and Matt Murray. Now it appears that Matt Murray will be nowhere near the Maple Leafs roster. It now appears the Maple Leafs will run a tandem of Ilya Samsonov and Joseph Woll for tonight's game.

The recall of Kallgren is a clear sign that either the Maple Leafs don't feel Murray is ready to play this season. While the Maple Leafs have no intention of playing Kallgren, this however means if either Woll or Samsonov suffer an injury that it won't be Matt Murray as the next man up.
