Kallgren was serving as the team's third goalie behind Joseph Woll, but now with goaltender Matt Murray returning from injury, his services won't be needed.
Murray was acquired in a trade last offseason from the Ottawa Senators with the intention of being the Leafs starting goaltender this year. However, after the team signed Ilya Samsonov and with Murray struggling with injuries, he lost the number one slot quickly.
While he's shown flashes of the Stanley Cup champion goaltender he is, the inconsistency and injuries hurt Murray's performance this season. Unless Samsonov struggles mightily in the second round against the Florida Panthers, it's unlikely Murray will see games for the Leafs.
