Insider says GM Candidates all have a Major Question for Leafs' President before Taking Job
According to one Insider, all the prospective candidates for the general manager position with the Toronto Maple Leafs want a big question answered before taking on the role.
The Question
One his latest 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said all those who interviewed for the job with Maple Leafs President Brendan Shanahan have asked one question in particular.
"Friedman on 32TP says those who have interviewed for the Leafs GM job have asked Shanahan what he honestly thinks [Auston] Matthews, [Mitch] Marner and [William] Nylander are thinking and what their next contracts could look like, they want to know what they're getting into."
A few names have been tossed around as potential candidates, but the main one seems to be Brad Treliving, who was recently fired from the Calgary Flames. Treliving has had his share of contract snares and trades to deal with in the past, much like the Matthews, Marner, Nylander situation in Toronto. There's been a lot of talk of breaking up the Core 4 (which includes John Tavares), and it would not be good to have someone inexperienced at the helm to deal with that.
