You may not know this, but the 2026 draft is one of the drafts with the most giants in NHL history among the prospects.

7-foot Alexander Karmanov is certainly the biggest secret of the 2026 NHL Draft.
The secret is officially out across the league. This upcoming draft class is an absolute anomaly when it comes to sheer physical dimensions.
Scouting departments from all 32 teams are staring at a massive wave of towering prospects. The volume of teenagers standing 6-foot-5 or taller is entirely unprecedented.
Front offices looking to add pure bulk, wingspan, and intimidation to their depth charts are in luck. The board is completely loaded with size.
Just look at the top tier of prospects expected to hear their names called early. Windsor Spitfires left winger Ethan Belchetz and Russian defender Nikita Shcherbakov both clock in at a massive 6-foot-5.
Belchetz is already carrying 227 pounds on that frame. But in this specific draft class, standing 6-foot-5 almost makes a kid look average.
The secondary list is loaded with absolute monsters who dwarf the rest of the competition on the ice. General managers are taking notice.

The biggest secret of the draft

London Knights defender Maksim Sokolovskii tips the scales at 238 pounds on a 6-foot-8 frame. Sean Burick out of Penticton joins him in that exact same 6-foot-8 tier.
Tristan Langlois and goaltender Filip Ruzicka are also hitting that 6-foot-8 mark. The sheer depth of size available is blowing the minds of professional scouts.
Then there is the main attraction developing up in the OHL with the North Bay Battalion. Karmanov is a physical phenomenon unlike anything the sport has ever evaluated.
He stands a confirmed 7-foot-0 and weighs a punishing 265 pounds. He is a literal mountain on skates who completely redefines the defensive position.
That height officially makes him bigger than Zdeno Chara. The legendary blueliner terrified opposing forwards at 6-foot-9 for a quarter of a century in the Show.
Karmanov has a full three inches on the future Hall of Famer. Trying to establish a forecheck against that wingspan on a penalty kill will be an absolute nightmare for opposing units.
The league is about to undergo a massive physical shift. General managers will be fighting tooth and nail to draft these literal giants to patrol their blue lines.
