Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is gearing up for the biggest season of his career, and a contract extension could be his reward for his heroics.
Anthony Stolarz had a goals-against average of 2.14 last season, and he backed that up with a save percentage of .926 and four shutouts.
Going into this season, the goaltender only has one year left on his deal, and he is expected to split the net with fellow netminder Joseph Woll.
Coming into the season, there was a lot of discourse about whether or not Stolarz would end up signing a contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
After Dennis Hildeby signed a three-year deal with the franchise this morning, it felt as though Stolarz's future in Toronto was actually looking pretty bleak. As it turns out, fans shouldn't count him out so soon.

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Stolarz and the Maple Leafs have begun contract negotiations for an extension.
Overall, it is unclear what Stolarz is looking for in regards to term and salary. His AAV this season is $2.5 million, so it should come as no surprise that the goaltender will be looking for a raise.
As for the term, a goaltender of his age is probably looking for four years. Whether or not the Maple Leafs are willing to commit to that remains to be seen.
The Stolarz situation will be fascinating to watch as the season goes on. After all, goaltenders are in high demand right now, and the Maple Leafs could use him as trade bait.
For now, however, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a tandem to be excited about, and it will be interesting to see who becomes the starter.
Either way, Stolarz will be playing inspired, as there is a lot on the line for his career.
