Anthony Stolarz and the Toronto Maple Leafs Reach One Final Hurdle Amid Contract Talks
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz wants a new contract, and with negotiations underway, it appears as though there is one final hurdle to overcome.
Anthony Stolarz certainly earned his keep with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, thanks to his 2.14 goals-against average and .926 save percentage.
Overall, the goaltender has one more year left on his deal, where he is making $2.5 million. He certainly deserves more, and that is why he is in negotiations with the Leafs right now.
According to multiple reports, both sides are interested in getting a deal done as quickly as possible. In fact, the goalie gave the Leafs a deadline of the regular season.
Anthony Stolarz and the Toronto Maple Leafs continue to talk
In a new report from Elliotte Friedman, it was revealed that the Maple Leafs and Stolarz have agreed to a three to four-year term.
However, the final hurdle is all about the money. It seems like the number could range from $4.5-$5 million, although this may be too rich for the Leafs' liking.
I don't think term is going to be the issue here, it seems to me this is likely to be 3-4 yrs, I think the issue has been the number
While Stolarz was great last season, he has never been a steady starting goaltender in the NHL, and the Leafs also have to think about Joseph Woll.
Having two starting-caliber goalies truly is a gift and a curse in these situations, as there is no telling what the Leafs will decide here.
What we do know is that both sides are interested in keeping the relationship alive, which is certainly a positive thing.
Only time will tell whether or not the Maple Leafs can get this done prior to the start of the regular season, or if this becomes a Summer of 2026 issue.
