Anthony Stolarz Gives the Toronto Maple Leafs a Deadline for His Contract Extension
Anthony Stolarz and the Toronto Maple Leafs are currently working on a contract extension, although for the most part, little progress has actually been made.
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz is coming off an exceptional season with the franchise, and as a result, the fans want to keep him around a while.
The franchise wants to do the same, although that is not going to be an easy task. Why? Well, the goaltender is going into the final year of his $2.5 million AAV deal, and he is going to want a huge pay raise.
Furthermore, he is going to want some term, and that's going to create some headaches for the Leafs, especially when you think about their recent commitment to Dennis Hildeby.
Anthony Stolarz gives the Toronto Maple Leafs an ultimatum
All of the reporting suggests that something will get done between these two, although little progress has been made, and now, Stolarz is giving the team a deadline.
According to Chris Johnston and Luke Fox, the Maple Leafs goalie wants to get the contract signed before the start of the season. He will not negotiate in the middle of the season.
I want to kinda get it done with as soon as possible, especially before the season starts.
Stolarz was honest about his experiences going through free agency, and there is no denying that he is ready and willing to force the Leafs' hand here.
I've been through free agency three times now, so it's nothing new to me. I'm gonna continue to go out there and play.
The next few weeks are going to be crucial here as the deadline is coming up fast. If Stolarz doesn't get that contract, then the wait will last months.
Should he hit free agency, then the Leafs will be in trouble as the market for a starter will be astronomical.
