Auston Matthews Sends Blunt Message to Mitch Marner Ahead of Training Camp

Auston Matthews and the Toronto Maple Leafs are gearing up for their first season in a decade without Mitch Marner in the lineup.

For years, Matthews and Marner were a dominant duo. However, that has all come to an end, and the Maple Leafs must find a way to move on and continue being a good team.

Today, training camp begins in Toronto, and prior to stepping onto the ice, Matthews got to face the media, where he took questions related to the season. Of course, Mitch Marner was brought up.

When asked about his relationship with Marner, given the circumstances, Matthews took the high road and offered an emotional yet mature answer that fans can appreciate.

Simply put, the captain has no ill will towards his former linemate. Instead, he remains friends with Marner, and the team as a whole wishes for Marner's success, even if he isn't a Leaf anymore.

This is a great response from the Maple Leafs captain. He understands better than anyone that the best revenge is moving on and having a huge season.

Of course, it will take some adjustment this season as he no longer has his buddy to the right of him. However, Max Domi and Matias Maccelli could fill that role.

We cannot wait for this season to begin and watch a healthy Auston Matthews take to the ice and do what he does best.

Whether or not he can get back to the 50 goal mark without Marner, still remains to be seen.
