The Toronto Maple Leafs are one of the most interesting teams to watch today. The team is in desperate need of a long-term solution on their back end. Despite already adding two defenders. The Maple Leafs are in search of a player that can play alongside Morgan Rielly.

Rumors of heavily linked the Leafs to the St. Louis Blues of possible trade partners. Rumors persist that St. Louis is trying to clear out salary on their back end. This could include former Stanley Cup winner and right-handed defender Colton Parayko.
The two teams feel like a perfect match. Today the Maple Leafs made a roster move sending top six forward and rookie forward Matthew Knies to the American Hockey League.
Hearing the #leafs will send Matthew Knies to the AHL Marlies in a paper transaction today to preserve some flexibility down the stretch, if needed.

Not only does this move give the Maple Leafs flexibility but it also makes Knies eligible to play in the AHL playoffs. It will be very interesting to see why the Maple Leafs felt the need to make this move, but if Toronto is looking to make a big splash they will be in need of all the roster spots and salary cap they can find.
With less than 2 hours to the trade deadline time is ticking.
