As we edge closer to the National Hockey League trade deadline, there is news that the Buffalo Sabres have moved their captain. Kyle Okposo to the Florida Panthers for Defenceman Calle Sjalin and a conditional 7th-round pick.

Okposo, who is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, has been a member of the Sabres since the 2016-2017 season. During his career, he has contributed 242 goals, 614 points and 552 penalty minutes.

If anything, the move provides the Panthers with another veteran presence who can be moved up and down the lineup and can play in nearly every situation he is placed in.

The 35-year-old forward has not had an opportunity to play in the playoffs since the 2015-2016 season and this gives him a legitimate opportunity to compete for a Stanley Cup.
