Oliver Kapanen was noticeably absent as Martin St. Louis gathered his squad for practice in Brossard on Monday.

The promising rookie center took a well-deserved maintenance day to receive treatments. He has been an absolute workhorse for the club over the last few weeks.
The Montreal Canadiens just returned from a grueling California road trip. They managed to secure three out of a possible six points out west, grinding through some tough defensive battles.
Kapanen was heavily relied upon during that Pacific division swing. He logged a demanding 18:34 of ice time against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night alone.
The young forward is enjoying an impressive rookie campaign in the Show. He currently sits just one strike away from hitting the celebrated 20-goal plateau.
Racking up 32 points through his first 62 games is no small feat. He provides a steady presence on the forecheck while generating consistent offensive output.
Missing his speed through the neutral zone would be a tough blow. The team is desperately trying to solidify its postseason positioning down the final stretch.

High Stakes At The Bell Centre

The timing of this minor setback brings up some immediate roster questions. The rival Toronto Maple Leafs roll into town for a heavy Tuesday night clash.
Montreal's coaching staff will need their absolute best lineup available. Matching up against Toronto's high-flying forwards requires total team commitment and crisp passing.
The Habs currently hold the first wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. They boast a very respectable 34-18-10 record through this point in the year.
Sitting on 78 points gives them a small pocket of breathing room. They remain exactly five points ahead of the surging Columbus Blue Jackets.
Columbus is the first team sitting on the outside looking in right now. The pressure is ramping up fast as the playoff race tightens across the league.
Dropping points at home is simply not an option. Securing a favorable playoff seed depends entirely on how Montreal handles these tight divisional matchups.
If Kapanen cannot lace up his skates tomorrow, the lines will shuffle. Expect someone from the bottom six to see an immediate bump in ice time and responsibility.
Tomorrow's morning skate will reveal everything we need to know about his status. Either way, the Bell Centre crowd will be deafening for puck drop.
