Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev is dealing with a groin injury right now, although it remains to be seen whether or not he will be getting surgery.

Chris Tanev has been devastated by injuries this season, and it feels like he has been dealt one of the roughest hands of anyone in the league.
He has had two concussions and a groin injury. The groin issue is fairly new, and it has left the defenseman in a pretty bad place, as he is likely to miss the rest of the season.
There has been a prevailing sense that the defenseman would go out and get surgery of some sort. However, he has yet to do so, and the Leafs still don't know what's going on.
In fact, a recent update from Craig Berube suggests that Tanev is very much still in the midst of deciding what he wants his next course of action to be.

Chris Tanev still hasn't made up his mind

Essentially, Tanev still thinks he can play this season. If he gets surgery, that will no longer be a reality. He wants to see if he can get any better without going under the knife.
That's him. He wants to play. We're still working through things.
While this sounds great, this is actually putting the Maple Leafs at a disadvantage of sorts. They have no clue where to go next. Do they hold out hope for Tanev or seek out another defenseman?
The trade deadline is coming up, and the Maple Leafs need some clarity. If they cannot get that clarity, then they are going to be in some real trouble.
It's a tough situation to be in, and only time will tell whether or not the Leafs are able to figure it out, and whether or not Tanev actually plays again this season.
If we had to bet, he's probably going to have to just accept the L this season and sit out for the rest of the year.
