The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly been contemplating a coaching swap involving current head coach Craig Berube, and free agent Peter DeBoer.
Ever since being fired by the Dallas Stars, Peter DeBoer has been one of the most highly sought-after coaching free agents.
There is a good reason for this. He has a track record of going on deep playoff runs with his teams. He can get the best out of his players, and he can run an offensive ship.
Just a couple of weeks ago, the Maple Leafs found themselves in the running for DeBoer. Craig Berube had seemingly lost the locker room, and there were rumblings that he would be let go.
The fact that the Leafs didn't get in on these talks tells us that they are all in on head coach Craig Berube for the long haul, and they have no interest in switching.
This is probably for the best, as Berube has this team playing good hockey right now. In the last three games, they have outscored opponents 17-4.
Only time will tell if they can extend this streak against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
The Maple Leafs have a perfect opportunity to make a comeback, and if there is any coach who can facilitate it, it would be Berube.
