Craig Berube Makes Sobering Comments About Nick Robertson's Future with the Leafs
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was recently asked about forward Nick Robertson and whether or not he is going to have a place on this year's roster.
Nick Robertson officially has a new contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and despite the trade rumors, it seems like the forward will start the season with the Leafs.
However, with additions like Matias Maccelli, Nicolas Roy, and Dakota Joshua, there are debates being had about where Robertson actually fits on the roster.
He is going to have to have a monster training camp. If he doesn't, then there is a good chance he is subjected to numerous healthy scratches like he was in the playoffs.

Recently, Leafs head coach Craig Berube sat down with Jonas Siegel of The Athletic, where he was asked numerous questions about the roster.
When Berube was asked about Robertson, he offered a sobering update. Instead of guaranteeing the forward a spot on the roster, he simply said that everyone will have to earn their way onto the team.
There's a lot of competition at camp. I'll leave it at that. There's a lot of competition at camp, which is great. I think it makes for a competitive camp, and that's what we want, because that's going to get us more prepared for the regular season. I don't have the answer to that right now. There are jobs available and, again, it's a competition. You've got to come in and play your ass off and earn a spot.
With that being said, Robertson could very well get the short end of the stick, especially if Eason Cowan comes in and proves he is NHL-ready.
Should Robertson not make the roster as expected, then we could see a trade very soon. After all, the forward is not going to accept being a healthy scratch every night.
For Robertson, the message is clear. Play well and hard; otherwise, you will not have a job for next season.
Meanwhile, this just goes to prove that Craig Berube is someone who expects a lot from his players and will not tolerate guys who are entitled.
