Craig Berube watched the Toronto Maple Leafs deliver a lackluster performance against the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Despite having guys like William Nylander, John Tavares, Matthew Knies, and Anthony Stolarz in the lineup, the team lost 4-2.
With the regular season about to begin on October 8th, the Maple Leafs need to deliver better efforts, especially if they want to go far.
Craig Berube goes off on the Toronto Maple Leafs
While speaking to reporters after Saturday's game, head coach Craig Berube was complimentary of the Montreal Canadiens.
However, he was not so complimentary of the Toronto Maple Leafs.
I liked their 6 on 5s. It's one of those preseason games. I thought Montreal worked hard. You know, they played a simple game, and we kind of complicated things at times. That's what you get sometimes in preseason games.
The head coach noted there was some good and some bad in this game, but there was stuff that drove him bananas.
They are, yeah, because it lacks intensity, I think, more than anything. And that can drive a coach bananas. But I understand. There was some good stuff, too. I was happy with some of the stuff. I look for structure stuff. I look for routes and just things like that that go on in the game, our systems.
The preseason can be tough, and we hope that the Toronto Maple Leafs can get past this and get better in time for the regular season.
If they bring this effort to the games that matter, they could find themselves falling down the standings very quickly.
