Brady Tkachuk gave Travis Green and the Senators a real playoff scare after leaving with a balance issue against the Islanders.

That is the whole story in Ottawa right now. The Senators clinched their playoff spot, but the bigger issue is whether their captain is dealing with something that follows him into Round 1.
The sequence sounded unsettling even before any medical read came out. Tkachuk took what looked like a minor collision with Ryan Pulock during a line change, then struggled to stay upright.
He got back to the bench, spoke with the training staff, and then left the game. When a player cannot steady himself after light contact, the concern around the room changes fast.
There was still no firm diagnosis in the reporting. That uncertainty is what pushed outside analysis into the conversation, including concern that the issue could be something disruptive even if it is not long term.
The better update came later from Elliotte Friedman. He said Tkachuk was still being tested, but the early word was that it was not expected to be anything significant.
That eases the temperature a bit, but not enough to shrug it off. Ottawa has already locked up a playoff spot, so every decision from here should run through one question: is Brady Tkachuk truly right?
Shortly after turning his head rapidly, Tkachuk seems to develop balance issues

Long list of causes. Assuming it’s not anything life-threatening, vertigo (specifically BPPV) would be a common cause. Need to rule out concussion too

Doctor weighs in on Brady Tkachuk injury and it’s concerning

The Senators have 2 games left in the regular season. That makes this simple. If there is even mild doubt, Tkachuk should sit and get every extra day available before the playoffs open.
That is not caution for the sake of caution. Tkachuk is the emotional driver of this team, and losing him would rip through Ottawa's top six, net-front game, and overall push at even strength.
The article lays that out clearly. His value is not just points or captaincy language. It is the way he tilts the ice, drags teammates into the fight, and gives Ottawa its edge when games get tighter.
And because the Senators have already shown they can win without him in short bursts, they do not need to prove anything over the final week of the schedule. They need to protect what matters most.
That is why this story beats any recap angle. Ottawa already got the playoff berth. The real issue now is whether its captain gets a clean runway to the postseason or carries a cloud into it.
The good news is the early expectation sounds lighter than the visual on the ice. But until the tests are done and the Senators say more, Brady Tkachuk remains the one name that can change everything for Ottawa.
