Elliotte Friedman Confirms Major Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Rumor
Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has some big moves to make this summer, and according to Elliotte Friedman, the mandate is pretty clear.
Following the departure of Mitch Marner, the Toronto Maple Leafs and their general manager, Brad Treliving, have been given a mandate to acquire a top-six forward.
Overall, this won't be easy to acquire. The free agent market is pretty dead right about now. Furthermore, the Leafs have limited assets to trade.
However, on an episode of '32 Thoughts' Elliotte Friedman confirmed that there is, indeed, one way the Leafs could get what they need.

Essentially, there is a sense that the Maple Leafs might end up trading a roster defenseman so that they can acquire a forward.
Recently, the Leafs tried to acquire JJ Peterka, but the price was going to be Brandon Carlo, someone they did not want to deal.
Another thing Friedman wonders is could they be trying to move a D for a forward. That was rumored with Peterka when they were weighing in on that situation. Didn't happen but that's something he thinks they've looked at.
One has to wonder whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs will be able to make a deal soon, especially when it comes to pairing a right-winger with captain Auston Matthews.
Morgan Rielly is someone who has been embroiled in rumors lately, although it remains unlikely that he will be moved.
Whatever the case may be, the Leafs are going to have to do something. Otherwise, they could fall behind next season.
