Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman just offered up some information on the Toronto Maple Leafs that is going to prove disappointing to the fanbase.
The NHL trade deadline is coming up on March 6th, and the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to have some difficult decisions to make.
For weeks now, there has been a debate about whether or not this team should be buying or selling. It is a rough debate, and one that general manager Brad Treliving must be agonizing over.
With that being said, the Maple Leafs are not in a position to go on a deep playoff run right now, and this has led to the belief that the Leafs will be sellers.
After two wins in a row against the Vancouver Canucks and the Calgary Flames, there have been hopes that the Leafs would change their minds.
Toronto Maple Leafs make their plans clear
According to Elliotte Friedman, that is simply not going to be the case. The plans are the same as they ever were. No ifs and or buts.
If you expected Brad Treliving to change his mind because of two decent games, well, that is on you. Expect the Leafs to be sellers over the next month.
Going into the Olympic break, it will be interesting to see if the Toronto Maple Leafs change their minds or keep things the same.
Even if they beat the Edmonton Oilers tonight, it is very likely that the Leafs will remain sellers. The goal is simple: they want to retool.
In some ways, it is a bold move. In other words, it is what the Maple Leafs should have been doing all along.
Only time will tell whether or not Treliving gets big returns for his trade bait, which includes guys like Bobby McMann, Nicolas Roy, Nick Robertson, and others.
