The NHL trade deadline is coming up, and with the Toronto Maple Leafs looking to make some moves, there are some big warning signs flashing right now.
Going into the NHL trade deadline, there is a lot of debate surrounding what the Toronto Maple Leafs should be doing right now, and if Brad Treliving will make the right moves.
It is not going to be an easy path forward for this team, and there is a reasonable amount of skepticism around the Leafs.
Having said that, it appears as though a Bobby McMann trade is all but guaranteed. While this sounds like the right move, not everyone agrees.
There are some former NHL players out there who believe the Leafs would be making a huge mistake if they moved the first-line winger.
Should the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Bobby McMann?
One of those people is none other than Anthony Stewart. He was on Leafs Morning Take recently, where he explained why the Maple Leafs must keep McMann on the roster.
You trade a Bobby McMann, that's just the conveyor belt of going from under $3M at the time, to when it's time to make $5M, it's see you later.
While this sounds nice, the Maple Leafs do need draft capital and a plethora of other assets in order to get better.
There are some glaring weaknesses on the team. Goaltending has been mediocre at times, while the defense has also been frustrating.
Upgrades have to be made, and with that comes sacrifice. As it turns out, McMann is one of the easiest players to sacrifice due to his value.
Whether or not the Maple Leafs end up making some big moves is something that still needs to be determined. Either way, all eyes are on the front office.
