Fan Favorite Toronto Maple Leafs Defenseman Sparks Injury Concern Ahead of Roster Cuts
Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Marshall Rifai is fighting for a spot on the team, and last night, he was featured in a game against the Montreal Canadiens.
Marshall Rifai is a defenseman that a lot of Toronto Maple Leafs fans have been excited about. While he has only played two games for the franchise, he has been as solid as ever with the Toronto Marlies.
Overall, the Maple Leafs are a team with an abundance of defensemen, and it is very likely that Rifai is forced to play for the Marlies this season.
However, he has been a participant at training camp and has been rewarded with some preseason games.
In fact, Rifai played for the Toronto Maple Leafs last night in a 7-2 victory against the Montreal Canadiens.
Marshall Rifai leaves Montreal Canadiens game
Unfortunately, he caught the injury bug midway through the game after a run-in with Canadiens forward Joshua Roy.
Rifai did not return to the game, and it is believed that he is dealing with some sort of upper-body injury right now, which is less than optimal.
This could very well put an end to training camp and, by extension, the preseason for Rifai. With this injury, he simply won't be able to make the team.
Roster cuts should be on the horizon, and Rifai will likely be part of the last round. Thankfully, he has an AHL roster spot to fall back on.
Throughout the upcoming season, we could see Rifai with the Leafs if there are any major injuries to the team's defensemen.
For now, however, it seems as though this injury is going to be the end of the road for him, at least for the month of September.
