Ex-Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender James Reimer is making the most of his time following his release from a PTO during training camp and is now with Team Canada.
During training camp this year, the Toronto Maple Leafs needed an extra goalie as Joseph Woll took a leave of absence, leaving the team looking for solutions.
As a result, the Leafs signed their former goaltender, James Reimer, to a Professional Tryout. Unfortunately, Reimer could not meet expectations and was eventually released.
The 37-year-old now remains a free agent in the hockey world and has not selected a new team to play for. At this point, the NHL seems out of the question.
However, Reimer has gotten some very good news, as he was just named to Team Canada. No...not that Team Canada.

Reimer will not be playing at the Olympics in Italy. That would be silly. Instead, he is playing for Team Canada at the Spengler Cup.
There will be another Maple Leafs connection at the Spengler Cup, with Leo Komarov playing for the club team, HC Davos.
Of course, most fans will be focused on the World Juniors on Boxing Day, although the Spengler Cup certainly offers up a nice viewing experience.
There are some good teams in the tournament, and it is always fun to go out and cheer for Canadian players who still have the passion for the game.
Whether or not Reimer is going to start for Team Canada and get meaningful games still remains to be seen. That said, making the team should be enough.
Hopefully, Reimer can prove to prospective teams why he still deserves to be playing pro hockey.
