The fallout from Saturday night's Toronto Maple Leafs visit to the Bell Centre to play the Montreal Canadiens continues and this time former National Hockey League defenceman and Canadiens player P.K. Subban has some rather harsh words for anyone, who's listening.
Whether you believe that he was a bit over the top and overrated during his career is irrelevant but quite like his time in the National Hockey League, his take was ridiculous, raw and real.
Subban does have a point. However, it's my opinion that as much as preseason is there to allow regulars to get their legs back after a busy summer and see how long it takes for them to click with teammates, they know they'll be playing alongside this season it's also an opportunity to see what your system has in its fringe players in the event you need them to step up.
The league needs to figure out how to mandate change so that the safety of players comes first above all. The game doesn't need to change to the point it's not recognizable if it hasn't already. It just needs to find a way to be safer for everyone and in my opinion as much as it's the players' responsibility to police themselves, it's on the league to figure out what's appropriate and what isn't when it comes to egregious plays, such as we saw on Saturday night.
