A defenseman who is quite familiar to Toronto Maple Leafs fans is currently on the trading block, despite a couple of decent seasons with the San Jose Sharks.
Timothy Liljegren is a defenseman whom the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to trade last season after realizing his future with the team was not in the cards.
Overall, Liljegren remains someone who is effective at the NHL level. Through 42 games this season, he has 11 points, but it's clear that the San Jose Sharks are running out of room for him.
The Sharks are a team that is still rebuilding, and they are trying to put together the best pieces possible to contend in five years from now.
With that in mind, it should not be a surprise that Liljegren is someone that the team has been looking to shop for some time now.

According to reporter David Pagnotta, it is actually looking increasingly likely that the team ends up giving up on Liljegren completely.
In fact, a trade could very well happen at the deadline, which is officially set to take place on March 6, a couple of weeks after the Olympics.
Timothy Liljegren is out there, which isn’t a surprise; the Sharks are listening on all their pending UFA defencemen, and while the Sharks are trying to strengthen their blueline, he doesn’t seem to fit into their plans moving forward
At the end of the day, this is going to be an interesting situation for all parties involved.
As for the Toronto Maple Leafs, it is clear that they made the right choice to move on from Liljegren when they did. They would have traded him eventually.
Only time will tell when Liljegren will move on, and which team is going to end up taking him.
