Former Toronto Maple Leafs Draft Pick Traded For the Third Time in Six Years
Former Toronto Maple Leafs draft pick Carl Grundstrom is trying to find some consistency in his career, although this has proven to be difficult to do.
Carl Grundstrom is a forward that the Toronto Maple Leafs took in the second round of the NHL Draft back in 2016.
Overall, Grundstrom never got to play a game for the Maple Leafs. However, for a few years, he got to develop his skills with the Toronto Marlies.
In 2019, he was traded to the Los Angeles Kings. From there, he was sent to the San Jose Sharks, where he spent all of last season.
Going into this season, Grundstrom was gearing up for another season with the Sharks, although unfortunately, that is no longer the case.
Carl Grundstrom to the Philadelphia Flyers
Earlier today, the San Jose Sharks added Ryan Ellis to their roster from the Philadelphia Flyers in exchange for Artem Guryev.
The #SJSharks acquire defenseman Ryan Ellis and a 2026 conditional 6th round pick from the Flyers for Carl Grundstrom and Artem Guryev.
At the end of the day, this is a demonstration of just how cruel the NHL can be, especially right before the NHL season begins.
Teams begin to realize what they do and don't need, and oftentimes, fourth-liners like Grundstrom end up being victimized by the process.
For the Maple Leafs, this is something that they don't need to worry about, as it will not affect their division. Conference, yes, but division no.
Only time will tell whether or not Grundstrom can find his stride in Philadelphia.
